For years, Yungblud has been the reason thousands of queer kids finally felt like they belonged somewhere. Last weekend, sobbing on his own stage, he admitted they’d just done the exact same thing for him.

It happened at Bludfest, the festival he built from scratch as an affordable, fan-first answer to the overpriced corporate circuit. It welcomes everyone, but the pansexual rocker has said what he’s proudest of is how many young people feel safe enough to come out in that crowd.

This year it went international for the first time, pulling 20,000 people into a field in Czechia. Standing in front of all of them, he broke down. “I have felt in pain a lot and I don’t know why, for a long time,” he told the crowd, wiping the tears off his face with his forearm.

“But every time I find your faces, every time I look at you, I know that I belong somewhere.”

He posted the video to Instagram with a caption that opened “Warning. Truth incoming,” admitting he almost didn’t share it because saying nothing would have made him look cooler. He decided honesty mattered more.

For years his fans have said the same thing about him – “I finally feel like I belong somewhere.” Last weekend, he was the one who needed to hear it back.
